Custom Authorization Scenarios for Transit Payments

We have supported various processing scenarios specific for the transit payments industry. Now Way4 Acquiring allows transit merchants to initiate mass transit transactions (such as deferred, aggregated and repeated authorizations) on Visa, Mastercard and MIR cards. Processing scenarios are slightly different for merchants transmitting data in the dual-message mode versus the single-message mode. But in all cases, this functionality helps merchants to correct the mistake of overcharging or undercharging passengers.

In some cases, the transit merchant chooses to authorize cards later, after the passenger trips have taken place. The POS terminal only checks whether a card belongs to its stop list or not. If not, the cardholder passes through pay gates right away. This feature helps to speed up the passenger flow and to minimize the interchange fees on micropayments. The authorization is initiated at a later time – either for one particular trip, or for multiple aggregated trips. If it is rejected, Way4 allows the merchant to initiate a debt recovery process.

Also, there are scenarios when pre-authorization and repeated authorizations are used. In such cases, the transit merchant calculates the passenger fare in real time before the trip begins, and the Way4 acquiring host grants authorization for the requested amount. However, trip conditions may change, and the final fare would turn out to be higher or lower than the pre-authorized amount. Way4 allows merchants to initiate various offline transactions to solve the discrepancy.
