In April, OpenWay’s teams in Vietnam partnered with the Faculty of Information Technology and Digital Economics at the Banking Academy of Vietnam to host a workshop in Hanoi on Modern Banking Systems: From Legacy Integration to Digital Asset Payments.
The session brought together around 30 lecturers and post-graduate students for a practical look at what happens behind the scenes of modern banking. Instead of focusing solely on industry trends, OpenWay experts connected academic knowledge with real project experience by showing how payment systems are planned, integrated, launched, and operated in complex financial environments.
The workshop explored Vietnam’s evolving banking landscape, the modernization of legacy systems, integration challenges, instant payments, card systems, and the growing relevance of digital asset payments, including stablecoins. This gave participants a broader view of how traditional banking infrastructure is adapting to new technologies and market expectations.
One of the key values of the event was its practical perspective. Participants could see how concepts discussed in the classroom translate into implementation decisions, technical trade-offs, and operational realities. The open Q&A created space for direct dialogue with OpenWay experts and reflected the participants’ strong interest in the future of payments technology.
“The workshop gave our lecturers and post-graduate students practical insights into modern banking systems, delivered with great enthusiasm by OpenWay’s experts,” said Dr. Phan Thanh Duc, Dean of the ITDE Faculty. “The knowledge shared will be valuable for both their professional work and academic research.”
“At OpenWay, we see Vietnam not only as a dynamic market for digital finance, but also as a source of exceptional technology talent,” said Nguyen Manh Ha, General Director, OpenWay Vietnam. “By working with academic partners such as the Banking Academy of Vietnam, we want to help students connect theory with real-world payments practice and inspire them to build the next generation of banking innovation.”
